In my perspective Social Justice means equality for all and equal opportunity for everybody. Everyone is human despite the color, race, gender, religion etc., The Bill of Rights states that everyone has rights that can’t be taken away. Some examples of Social Justice seen in communities is the fight for a health reform, the protest that people of all races come to do so they can get their voice heard. In these protests we can see that when people want change they can get it if they get unified which is an essential thing in social justice. Another example I saw was through an article I read in my Advanced Placement Biology class, which was about African American women having higher rates of breast cancer than White women, for the reason that money in this case was an issue. My view of social justice has changed over the last four years because I have learned that we need to take little steps to making injustice be justice, and it won’t happen all at once, but it will take time. One example of a social justice issue taking time was the school itself being built. It took years of protests of the unified Latino community before the Little Village campus opened. Social Justice is about working together to get what we think is fair.
Obstacle that we might face while trying to achieve social justice is that not everyone agrees on the definition of social justice it self. people have different perspectives of what it means based on what the different people have faced in their lives. the reason why we don’t have social justice is because it takes a group of people to be unified to get what they think is fair. People tend to think that since the people who are oppressing them are more powerful that their actions won’t change anything, but they are incorrect. Current examples of trying to achieve social justice is child labor laws, racism, medicine, corruption, poverty among others. A specific example was the death of an aunt because she didn't have economic sustainability to get medically checked. If there was a way that she could have known of help my aunt would probably still be living today.
My vision for struggle is to get action done upon this issue. People effectively struggle towards social justice because it might be a hard overwhelming process at the beginning, but the ending results are beneficial. People need social justice because we as humans need to become better people and need to know our right from wrong and when we need to take action upon situations like these. Those of us committed to social justice will keep moving forward during our lifetime with social justice because the issues related to this can be life changing. In my situation i can help larger organizations in the fight to get equal rights to health care for women. We can reduce the rates of breast cancer for the minorities, and I believe they deserve equal chance as those who don’t have economic sustainability to get medically checked.
My role in the struggle to get social justice among race and genders is to aware people of the inequalities going on. I see myself contributing to the struggle by getting involved with organizations that are already working towards this fight and hopefully encouraging students in specific young women to also work towards this issue. I want to encourage women in specialty because they are the ones affected by the inequality that’s going on. What I will do right now is investigate what triggers these major boost in rates of cancer. My fire is that i find it really unjustifiable to basically deny people the right to get diagnosed or treated just because of their economic situations. I am visioning myself working as a doctor and opening my own facility to help those around me because I and family members have seen and faced the disadvantages the minorities have. I want to be the glimpse of hope that a lot of women have to have the possibility to survive.
My issue is connected to social justice because this is an unfairness women are facing and we can change this unfairness and inequality. There are many organizations today that people are unaware about. If we as humans want to see a change in the world we need to be that change we want because we are not alone. This is not an issue that only one person faces this is an issue that is going on world wide. At the end of the day we need to remember that we don’t choose to be rich or poor and that we also don’t choose cancer, unfortunately cancer chooses us.
