Feminist Criticism
The issue of breast cancer treatment inequality relates to the feminist critical theory. As many people know breast cancer is most common in females and it’s thought of it like that because of the word”Breast”, but it’s not true. Breast cancer can happen in both male and female, but it’s more common in females. “In general men are at significantly greater risk than women from nearly all of the common cancers that occur in both sexes, with the exception of breast cancer.”(National Cancer Intelligence Network and Cancer Research UK,2009). This is a big issue that hits women and it’s very common, yet it’s a big unfairness that all women cannot get the treatment. Many women who have malignant breast tumors are scared mentally, but physically too because of their appearance after treatments. “A common theme emerging from research on women's experiences of breast cancer is the notion of losing one's femininity or feeling less feminine after breast cancer treatment”(Magnusson,2009). Many women in society now go untreated for breast cancer for the fact of looking unfeminine since they are breasts might get removed. Society has put the self image of a woman to be a woman with big breasts and a big butt as well, if you don't have that self image you will tend to be unhappy with yourself.
